"Protect Cherry Hill" a NSCAD student Stop-Motion Animation

Protect Cherry Hill is a stop-motion animation film conceptualised and coordinated by Anna Abi Daoud, Co-Directed by Emma MacCabe and Emma Chapman-Lin with DoP Mitchell Webber, and supported by their peers in Intermediate Animation FILM-3460. Inspired by the prompt “Positive Change”, Anna was reminded of the state of the local beach and felt motivated to create a work that could be gifted to the Protect Cherry Hill organizers to help the environmental cause. Important Update from Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL)

January 28, 2023 — Councillor Leitha Haysom reached out to the group via the Facebook Administrator last night to let Friends of Cherry Hill know about a MODL review of the repealed provincial Tourism Accommodation Act (TAA) that concluded with MODL action and recommendations to the province. This comprehensive Regulatory scheme was enacted from 1994/1995 to 2020.

It was the first agenda item for the council meeting yesterday and was in relation to a MODL Council draft letter regarding the Provincial Tourism Accommodation Act. The information contained in this update is a transcript of a recording presented by MODL CAO Tom MacEwan. It is very comprehensive, and you are encouraged to listen and/or read the transcript below.

Community Challenge
(Posted June, 2023)

So, this is a community challenge ….I encourage each and every one of you to go to this link: https://engage.modl.ca/coastal-protection/maps/community-map . HINT: You will need to create a MODL account if you haven’t already!

You can “drop a pin” on the map on Cherry Hill Beach and then add a comment and a picture if you want. I just picked one point to highlight — there are many other points that could be made!

Here is mine to give you an idea: "Cherry Hill Beach - protected beach and nature reserve, home of the federally protected piping plover and major habitat for migratory birds; intentionally increasing the population density for commercial development and profit any where near this area is irresponsible and will have a negative impact on the sensitive ecosystem in this coastal community. There needs to be mindful, intentional and effective municipal bylaws and regulations to protect Cherry Hill Beach and the sensitive ecosystems that support it. This would include coastal protection from RV parks and campgrounds. There needs to be strong, effective municipal bylaws related to campground development and where it is and is not acceptable to happen - think about Green Bay, etc…"

The way government works these days is that they HAVE to consider community input/consultation in their decision making - if we DON'T SPEAK UP WE WONT BE HEARD!!!!

If anyone would like 1:1 assistance with this, I am happy to help. Just email me at info.protectcherryhill@gmail.com

In neighbourly spirit!

Once again, the unspoiled beauty of a Nova Scotia South Shore coastal area is under attack from private landowners who are progressing with the development of an RV park on six acres of private land adjacent to Cherry Hill Beach, despite widespread opposition.

Cherry Hill Beach, located down a small lane off the Lighthouse route and SE of Bridgewater, is widely known for its stunning, pristine beauty. Residents and users of the beach believe this is about to change as plans are underway for the installation of a private seasonal trailer park just up from the beach.

Many believe it’s time the Municipality and Province stepped up to implement a strategy that engages the community in collaboration and consultation in any coastal development that could potentially have a negative impact.
