PRESENTATION TO LUNENBURG MUNICIPAL COUNCIL
THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE AND NATURE WAS HEARD!

DECEMBER 13, 2022 Friends of Cherry Hill Beach made a lively presentation to the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) Council – the voice of the people and nature was heard! It was a full house in the Chambers, as ~ 30 members of the public were present.; The mayor commented that the Chambers have never been that full - THANK YOU to those who were able to show up, to those who send kind words of support and for those who have been supporting the cause, in many other ways – this initiative cannot be done without you! The presentation has been shared on the page for those were unable to attend to view.

The Petition signatures were presented with a total of 4160 signatures over 10.5 weeks - WOW!!! The Petition results (102 pages of print signatures), comments and accompanying letters have been delivered to MODL Council, Honourable Becky Druhan’s office (MLA, Lunenurg West) and the property owners.

I will note that Leitha Haysom, Council - District 1, spoke to the passion of the people, caring for the land and caring for their neighbourhood and the environment. Chasidy Venoitte, Council - District 10, noted that she was impressed with the Friends of Cherry Hill Facebook Page and how respectful it was.

I was a bit confused at the end, as to whether there is any intention by MODL Council to consider an interim process regarding limiting campground development/expansion in coastal communities pending the implementation of the zoning strategy 2023-2024? Mayor Getson was very non-committal.

There will be a pause over the next few weeks for those who have been working tirelessly since September to rest and recharge. That said, there are actions in-motion, and there will be more coming in the new year so, stay tuned!

Happy Holidays to you all!

Susie Wood
